Fruit

Pastor Dan introduced us to the new series this week titled Fruit. The fruit we bear, is the equivalent to our relationship with God. When we are plugged into Gods power source, our life being in His hands, the devil has no choice but to flee from the very power of God. What an amazing word picture this is for us. God desires to share His power with us and it’s that very power source that equates our fruit. Time and time again in the bible we read stories of how God used the unqualified. He didn’t seek out those who were strong and add His power to them. He sought out those who were frail. God is not interested in adding his power to our strength. This is so reassuring to know. So many of us wait for the right time, when we have our lives all tidied up and put together so we can walk into church and say, “Ok God, I’ve got it all together now, so you can use me.”

13 years ago I was diagnosed with an illness that symptomatically I circled the drain of life. I was not the best mom and wife I could be. I was very shy and introverted. 3.5 years ago after giving up on the idea of being well again, God helped heal my illness. He allowed that illness to root deeply so that when I share my story it would come from a place of authenticity. He showed me that he healed me, so that I could offer hope to others with the same struggle and show them it’s possible.

I was perplexed at how I could help others being that I was so introverted and found it hard to speak in front of groups of people. God again, showed me that if I continued to claim that introversion, then that is what I would be. He showed me I could plug into his power source. Now I speak to hundreds of people at a time and I am so much more spiritually stronger. I placed my frailty in His hands.

Oftentimes we see ourselves for where we have been in the past. Our sin is too great to be able to move forward effectively for the Kingdom. There is no sin or past that God cannot use or overcome. God is our source of power and He is limitless! Our fruit is indicative of our power source. I am convinced this power source matters. Let’s be determined to not operate our lives “business as usual” and make a conscious choice day in and day out, prayerfully considering what God has each of us here for and to consciously choose to use the ultimate power source he freely gives us each day. Join me in my frailty, choosing to experience something very different than we ever have in the past!
